Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Not much is worse than turning in at night just to find out your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Comfort Masters Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Comfort Masters Service Experts a call at 847-250-6729 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
