Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t start up. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 847-250-6729 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
