What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Comfort Masters Service Experts in Wheeling always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Comfort Masters Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Comfort Masters Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst
