Spring may have sprung but in Wheeling it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been running for months striving to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some affection. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has turned itself off, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning promptly.
Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.
- Confirm your thermostat is set to “heat.”
It may sound ridiculous, but we are always running and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to ignore the simple fixes. Neglecting to switch over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!
- Check your furnace switch.
On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is in the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you actually look at daily. Most units have built-in delays so make sure when you turn on your furnace you give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.
- Swap your furnace air filter.
You should change your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Swap your filter to keep both your furnace and your home healthy.
- Check the circuit breaker.
Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.
Furnace repairs can get costly, so avoid a future issue altogether with regular maintenance from Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. However, if you are needing furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
