Common Wheeling AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed several of the most common air conditioning problems Wheeling faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some frequent air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

The air conditioning system is on but not releasing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not truly cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air coming out of your AC is actually cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is often a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to go out to your air conditioning system and find the two copper pipes. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or giving off condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it’s cold to the touch, you are likely good to go and won’t need additional refrigerant.

If you’re not positive or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold to the touch, call Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll pay you a visit and check your refrigerant levels and learn why your system is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t spinning.

There are many reasons your condenser fan isn’t rotating. One could be that it just burned out and you need a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining right or that the drain is obstructed. If you can look for these things, you may be able to locate the issue; but, if not, give Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can find out what is keeping your condenser fan from rotating and go over your options to get your A/C system problem fixed.

Your air conditioner is not providing ample air cooling.

The first step is to try lowering your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If dropping the temperature doesn’t get your system working right, check and replace the air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause major cooling troubles. Another thing that could result in your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are constructed. Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and do an analysis to determine if the size of your system is causing your troubles.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off constantly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of a few things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all clogs moved out of the way, you may be back to a normal running AC. Keep in mind that humidity also plays a role so if your home cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work vigorously to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your trouble, whatever typical or atypical air conditioning trouble you run into, Comfort Masters Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you 24/7/365. We are available to you so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your home comfortable as soon as possible.
