Common Wheeling AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We previously told you about several of the most common air conditioning problems Wheeling faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some frequent AC troubles that you can help troubleshoot.

The air conditioning system is on but not releasing cool air.

If your AC is running but not truly cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air coming out of your AC is really cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or giving off condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are likely good to go and won’t need additional refrigerant.

If you’re not positive or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call Comfort Masters Service Experts and we’ll pay you a visit and check your refrigerant levels and learn why your system is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are many reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One is that it just burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining right or that the drain is blocked. If you can verify these things, you may be able to locate the issue; but, if not, give Comfort Masters Service Experts a call and we can find out what is keeping your condenser fan from circulating and go over your options to get your AC problem fixed.

Your air conditioner is not providing ample air cooling.

The first step is to try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If dropping the temperature doesn’t get your system working right, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause significant cooling troubles. Another problem that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are constructed. Comfort Masters Service Experts is happy to come out and do an analysis to determine if the size of your system is causing your issues.

AC shuts on and off over and over

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of a few things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the system is cleaned and all clogs moved elsewhere, you may be back to a normal running air conditioner. Remember that humidity also plays a role so if your house cools to the proper temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work vigorously to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your trouble, whatever common or uncommon AC trouble you run into, Comfort Masters Service Experts is here for you 24/7/365. We are available anytime so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your home comfortable as soon as possible.
